New HVDC business in the MWS Group

Press release

Muehlhan Wind Service strengthens offshore wind grid capabilities, acquires HVDC installation business from Einar Øgrey

5th February 2026

Muehlhan Wind Service (MWS) has entered into an agreement to acquire the High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) installation business of Norway-based Einar Øgrey Farsund AS, strengthening its high-voltage infrastructure capabilities supporting offshore and onshore wind and long-distance power transmission.

As part of the transaction, the HVDC activities will be carved out into a newly established company and become part of the Muehlhan Wind Service Group. The transaction is expected to be completed during Q2 2026, subject to customary conditions.

The acquired business comprises a team of highly specialized professionals with long-standing experience in the installation of HVDC systems. Since 2006, the team has acted as a key installation partner to Hitachi Energy (formerly ABB), contributing to major offshore projects including the Dogger Bank platforms and the ongoing Hornsea 3 development.

HVDC systems play a critical role in transmitting power over long distances, including connections between offshore wind farms and onshore grids, interconnectors between countries, and the electrification of offshore installations. By integrating the HVDC business, Muehlhan Wind Service expands its service offering within complex electrical and mechanical installation projects, aligned with the continued growth of offshore wind and energy infrastructure worldwide.

The HVDC business will continue to be led by Arne Marthinsen, ensuring continuity for customers and employees as the company transitions into the MWS organization:

Becoming part of Muehlhan Wind Service ensures that we can continue to deliver HVDC installations for Hitachi Energy in a safe, efficient, and responsible manner. It also provides our employees with long-term opportunities as activity increasingly moves across international markets.”

In February 2025, Einar Øgrey Farsund entered into a framework agreement with Hitachi Energy covering future global HVDC installation projects, with upcoming activities in Germany, the Netherlands, and France. The integration into Muehlhan Wind Service is intended to support this growth through a strong international organization, scalable structures, and access to a global workforce.

We are pleased to welcome this experienced and highly skilled HVDC team from Einar Øgrey Farsund to the Muehlhan Wind Service family. The team will form the backbone of a new business unit within MWS, strengthening our capabilities in a highly specialized and fast-growing segment of the energy infrastructure market. This acquisition supports our long-term strategy of expanding our service offering across the value chain, enabling us to deliver end-to-end solutions for our customers within specialized wind industry services, now also covering energy infrastructure, substations, and grid. It further enhances our ability to support customers with grid-related scope, which is increasingly integrated into the delivery of wind projects. We see strong and growing demand for these capabilities, and this step enables us to meet that demand with in-house expertise across both offshore and onshore wind.”
