Corrosion protection of aluminium in marine environments

Because of its high strength/weight ratio, aluminium has a high potential for lightweight maritime constructions. There is, however, not sufficient information available with respect to the performance under corrosive loads. The project marinAL covers the following topics:

–   Development of cathodic protection methods for aluminium.

–   Protection of bolted connections between aluminium and other materials.

–   Coating solutions for aluminium in seawater.

–   Development of alternative, ecologically safe surface preparation methods.
